3 Refreshing Summer Juices Your Kids Will Actually Love
In India, it's summer! Mangoes and ice cream are in season, along with the inevitable complaints from children about the heat. As parents, we're constantly searching for ways to keep our kids hydrated and cool without stuffing them with commercially available sugary juices or soft drinks.
So why not create some delicious and nutritious juices at home? These ten juices are my kids' all-time favorites, and I've tried a lot with my own kids (and even the kids from the neighbor who creep in for a glass!). Believe me, they're delicious, simple to prepare, and refreshing all at once.
1.Litchi Lemonade
- 1 cup peeled litchis
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- Water or soda
- Mint leaves
Method:
Add the lemon juice to the litchis and blend. Garnish with mint and add chilled water or soda.
2. Muskmelon Cooler
Another hydrating fruit that is kid-friendly due to its mild flavor is muskmelon.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups chopped muskmelon
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- A bit of honey or jaggery if needed
Method:
Mix and set aside. For a fun texture, you can even add some soaked basil seeds (sabja).
3. Tender Coconut and Cucumber Juice
A refreshing beverage that's perfect for hot afternoons. It tastes very mild, but it's very refreshing.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup tender coconut water
- ½ cucumber, chopped
- Mint leaves
Method:
Blend and serve cold. You don’t even need sugar!
Tips to Make Kids Love These Juices Even More
Give them amusing names! Refer to it as "Frozen Fruit Magic" or "Super Red Power Juice." Children are receptive to creativity.
Make use of vibrant cups or straws. Even for kids, presentation is important!
Get them to participate. With supervision, of course, let them select a fruit or hit the blender button.
Final Thoughts
The summer is a great time to teach your children about healthy habits and new fruits. Try these simple, homemade alternatives to sugary sodas and packaged juices. In addition to being healthier, they are also brimming with flavor, love, and enjoyable memories. My children now eagerly anticipate their "juice time" each afternoon, and to be honest, so do I!
